Sampoerna committed to preserving the tradition

HMS (Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna) Tbk opened two hand rolled clove cigarettes in Probolinggo and Lumajang, East Java. The two factories were expected to create more than 8,400 permanent jobs for local residents. The new plant is to strengthen the SKT tradition of Sampoerna, which began in 1913 and our support for employment and community empowerment in East Java.

Probolinggo and Lumajang has a rich tradition of tobacco farming. Sampoerna is committed to preserving the tradition by investing in East Java.

The two factories, located in Kraksaan, Probolinggo, and Kunir, Lumajang, will focus on Dji Sam Soe production. This is one of the leading SKT brands in Indonesia and this year it is celebrating its 99th anniversary.

Both new plants will contribute to the community through Sampoerna corporate social responsibility programs in the fields of education, poverty alleviation and disaster management. Sampoerna, its subsidiaries and its 38 cigarette production partners (MPS) employ about 95,000 workers, and is one of the biggest contributors to employment in Indonesia.

Probolinggo Regent, Drs H. Hassan Aminuddin said, PT HM Sampoerna presence in Probolinggo has resulted in the employment of 4,600 people. “For that, we, on behalf of the government Probolinggo regency and everyone here, would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation, because by being here, PT HM Sampoerna is making a lot of social impact on the community, making lifefor the Probolinggo society more prosperous.
